D C Cello Studio

Deryn Cullen has been a private cello teacher since 1996 and enjoys a diverse career as a professional cellist. Since graduating from the University of Cape Town with a BMus (Hons) in 1999 she has worked in English and South African orchestras and done extensive freelance session work. She is also a regular contributor of articles on cello technique, teaching and music theory to music magazines and online publications and is the author of a popular blog, The Cello Companion.

Deryn uses elements of Feldenkrais Method and Alexander Technique to promote well aligned posture and uninhibited movement. This approach also reduces the chances of experiencing playing-related pain or injury. Her teaching method is holistic, focusing on technique, musical expression, theory and musicianship in equal measures. She teaches from her home in Leeds and also offers lessons online.
